SOFIDONUTS MEETS SAM TAYLOR

Who?
Sam Taylor.

What do you do for a living?
Freelance illustration.

Talk us through a day in the life of you…
Wake up, make coffee, drink coffee, shower, then check my emails. Then either go skating, usually at Stockwell, or sit in my room and draw all day – whilst listening to the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2. In the evening I’ll either go to a house party in Camberwell, Peckham or New Cross, or sit at home and watch some awesome HBO series; The Sopranos and Deadwood are on at the moment.

What…

Makes you cross?
Not that much; When Paddy O’Connel sits in for Jeremy Vine, getting ink everywhere when filling my pens up, dirty griptape and when my housemates accidentally turn the hot water off when I’m in the shower.

Makes you happy?
Skateboarding, new pens, The Sopranos, coffee, beer, my mates, Arrested Development, people buying things on my big cartel store, money, kickflips.

Whats…

Your most missed memory?
Skating shitty spots all summer when I was a kid.

The last thing you bought?
Some bagels on offer from Morrisons.

Where’s your favourite place to be?
Stockwell skatepark. At about 6 o’clock when the suns gone down past the houses, with a few beers and new wheels.

I’m very good at…
Responding to emails.

But I’d like to be very good at…
Frontside inverts on the jersey barrier at Stockwell.

Three…

Words you use all the time…
Rad
Cool
Cheers

Most visited websites…
Well there’s the obvious ones like PornHub but then there’s also Blogger (I manage too many blogs), Facebook and Twitter. Then there’s the Slap forum and the Sidewalk forum, Grey Mag, Pontus Alvs blog, Thrasher, Science Skateboards.

Most listened to albums…
I don’t really listen to albums because I download everything. At the moment I like the new Tom Vek album ‘Leisure Seizure’, Belle and Sebastian ‘Write About Love’ and Death Cab for Cutie ‘Codes and Keys’.

Top Cities…
London – I moved here about 4 years ago to skate and study, now I’ve finished uni and I’m not leaving.

Leicester – I’m from Leicester so I still like to go back from time to time and impress everyone with stories from the big city like some big-city-fat-cat.

Malmo – I visited Malmo on a skate trip last year with Jonnie Craig, Tom Knox and Jake Harris, it was amazing because Vice paid for everything and we skated all the Pontus Alv spots. I love this place.

If you could be asked any question in an interview, what would it be?
Who is your favourite character in The Sopranos and why?

SOFIDONUTS MEETS MARK CHRISTOPHER

Who?
Mark Christopher / Mark Breed.

What do you do for a living?
At the moment, nothing. However I am selling my t-shirts which is keeping me alive…slightly. I’d love to say I Illustrate for a living but that’s probably just a dream.

Talk us through a day in the life of you…
Oh god, my life is so messed up. I wake up around twelve or maybe one in the afternoon, put on my rags, go downstairs, skip breakfast/eat lunch and then plan whats going down. On a normal day my friends and I will go scavenge for charity shop gold. Not actually gold, we just get junk drunk off clothes. Tell you what though, you’d be surprised at the stuff we find and how little it costs. Not a great deal goes on in the country I have to say. Many nights are spend down what I call the cabin, which is basically a shed at the very bottom of my garden with everything you could imagine in it, a man cave if you will…It’s got sofas, big table, vinyl player, computer for the films, surround sound, plastic ducks, love letters from strangers and the wall is just covered with old memories. Then after all that I come alive till about three in the morning, sleep, rinse and repeat.

What…

Makes you cross?
When technology doesn’t work as it’s supposed to. oh and, don’t even get me started about them programmes about girls social lives…who gives a shit?

Makes you happy?
Little things in life make me happy. I’m not really one for going out their comfort zone. Thing like this make me happy. Having people appreciating what I do. I feel like a kid waking up on Christmas morning every time I see I have a message about my Illustrations.

Whats…

Your most missed memory?
I don’t really miss anything, If I had to say. I miss my friend Jamie who passed away last year. It was horrific but it still hasn’t settled in. I guess now that’s just a memory.

The last thing you bought?
I went to an antiques fair and bought an old smoking tin from around the 1960′s that says, “log cabin” on it. Couldn’t resist.

Where’s your favourite place to be?
The woods at night.

I’m very good at…
Finding bargains.

But I’d like to be very good at…
Life and motivation.

Three…

Words you use all the time…
I’m don’t really have fancy lingo but, “Creep it Real”.

Most visited websites…
Ermm, Tumblr for my blog. I spend a lot of time on google images as well. I’m always searching for interesting photos which I post on my other tumblr account. So that’s two. And the last would have to be youtube, constantly getting distracted by the amount of rubbish on youtube but find myself immersed in it for hours.

Most listened to albums…
Led Zeppelin – III, Jeff Buckley – Grace and it’s probably out of Slowdive – Souvlaki or the Red House Painters – Songs for a Blue Guitar.

Top Cities…
More of a country person. Most of the cities in England just have a really dull, depressing feel about them, don’t enjoy them one bit.

If you could be asked any question in an interview, what would it be?
If Jesus is gods son and we are all gods children, then why was Jesus so special?

SOFIDONUTS MEETS LUKE DIXON

Who?
Luke Dixon.

What do you do for a living?
Freelance Graphic Artist.

Tell us about your work…

Where do you find your inspiration?
I’m always scouring the tinternet, plowing through various blogs, websites – taking pictures and I just try to work out a decent idea from there. It’s either that or I come up with my best idea, just before I’m about to fall asleep…then remember it a few days later…before I’m about to sleep – until a few weeks later it eventually gets put down on paper. As far as artists go, there’s enough quality illustrators/artists/graphic design kids on twitter/tumblr to keep you inspired to keep pushing your work. I try to inspire myself, by looking at my work and seeing how I take it on to the next level – I feel my work’s always improving, and I’m always looking expand on my idea’s, but theres only so much you can do within the boundaries of your situation. Hopefully I’ll start to get the big idea’s I’ve got, on the go this year and it’ll be a big few months for me…

Talk us through a day in the life of you…
Wake up, get a shower, then a least 2-3 Red Bulls…Sometimes the gym, depends on what I’ve got to get done, if not it’s e-mails, then get down to drawing/art making, and a constant eye on the big 3 – Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook! By now I’m probably getting distracted by the History Channel…watching something to do with Americans buying stuff, and then making a profit later on….which you never actually see, they just say their going to make a profit – so you’ve just got to trust they will…

What…

Makes you cross?
Student Unions, Baked Beans, the e! channel, people who walk slowly or stop in front of you, rude people…although I don’t think I’ve said ‘ooh that makes me cross’ since I was about 11, but I’m definitely bringing it back!

Makes you happy?
Drawing, Guinness, Winning things, A good Whiskey, People liking the artwork, a good original film, family.

What’s…

Your most missed memory?
Thinking 50p was alot of money…

The last thing you bought?

Where’s your favourite place to be?

I’m very good at…

LAZY OAF Autumn Winter 2011 Launch

It was bright pop primary colours and punchy ‘toon themed threads down at Lazy Oaf’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection launch last night. Refreshed with Babicka Vodka and ginger beer i had a quick chat with Lazy Oaf creator, Gemma Sheil to learn that she enjoys producing the collections based on entertaining inspiration and originality….

“The new AW11 line is a bright red green blue themed collection that brings a smile to your face….we have used jazzy cartoon themes and introduced new garment styles, such as the Geo Skater Dress and our new knitted accessories…its been a fun collection to develop.”

It’s a great line of gear to add some animation and amusement to your usually dull winter wardrobe! Here are some of the favourites and a peep of the launch…
